Stop Mortgaging Your Life
Every Choice Either Invests in Your Future… or Borrows From It
There was a time when I was constantly borrowing from Future Kevin.
I didn’t think of it that way back then.
I just called it…
Being busy.
“I’ll sleep tomorrow.”
“I’ll start Monday.”
“I earned these drinks.”
“I’ll skip the workout.”
“One fast food meal won’t matter.”
None of those decisions felt like a big deal. Just like swiping a credit card.
Swipe.
Swipe.
Swipe.
Eventually the bill shows up. The difference?
Life charges interest.
And unlike your mortgage company… life doesn’t send a reminder before it starts collecting.
I Was Living on Credit
For years, I was mortgaging my life.
Not financially.
Physically.
Mentally.
Emotionally.
I was carrying debt I couldn’t even see.
Sleep debt.
Stress debt.
Nutrition debt.
Recovery debt.
Alcohol debt.
One bad decision wasn’t the problem. Thousands of little ones were.
I weighed over 230 pounds.
My cholesterol climbed to 264.
I was drinking far more than my body deserved.
I’d work hard all day, convince myself I “earned” the beer, stay up too late, sleep five hours, grab whatever food was easiest, and then wonder why I felt like garbage.
I was borrowing tomorrow’s energy to survive today.
The scary part?
I thought that was normal.
Every Choice Is a Loan… or a Deposit
Every decision we make is either borrowing from our future…
…or investing in it.
A great night’s sleep?
Deposit.
Strength training?
Deposit.
A walk after dinner?
Deposit.
Protein with breakfast?
Deposit.
Choosing water over your third soda?
Deposit.
Can you have pizza?
Absolutely.
Can you enjoy vacation?
Heck yes.
Can you have ice cream with your kids?
Without question. Life isn’t about avoiding memories.
It’s about avoiding lifestyles that quietly bankrupt your health.
Future You Is Always Watching
Every decision is really a conversation between Current You and Future You.
Current You wants convenience.
Future You wants freedom.
Current You wants another drink.
Future You wants healthy blood pressure.
Current You wants to hit snooze.
Future You wants enough strength to play with the grandkids.
Neither version of you is wrong.
They’re simply negotiating.
The question is…
Who usually wins?
I Married My Future Self 😂👰🏻🤵🏻
Hear me out, Bri…
Alright… before Bri reads this and starts wondering what in the world I’m writing…
Hear me out, Bri. 😂
Somewhere along this journey, I realized I kind of married my future self. Not instead of my wife. Let’s not make this weird.
What I mean is this…
Marriage is built on promises.
You make vows today because you care about the person you’ll spend the rest of your life with.
So why don’t we make those same promises to ourselves? To the person we’ll become.
Future Kevin…
I promise to protect your heart.
I promise to help you stay healthy enough to chase Dylan and Timmy today…
…and hopefully spoil some grandkids someday.
I promise not to bury you in alcohol because Current Kevin wanted another drink.
I promise to feed you foods that help you thrive more often than foods that only satisfy me for five minutes.
I promise to keep lifting.
Keep walking.
Keep moving.
I promise to sleep because you deserve recovery.
I promise to forgive my mistakes instead of quitting.
I promise to choose progress over perfection.
Because every healthy decision I make today…
…is really a promise to the man I’ll become tomorrow.
And honestly…
I hope 70-year-old Kevin looks back and says,
“Thanks, buddy. You had my back.”

Life Doesn’t Always Ask Permission
Here’s something I’ve learned. Not everything that adds pressure to our lives is our fault.
Parents get sick.
Jobs change.
Kids struggle.
Relationships hit rough patches.
Unexpected diagnoses happen.
Life happens.
Those aren’t choices.
But our response usually is.
That’s where Mind • Body • Heart becomes more than a slogan.
When life punches you in the face…
Your mind helps you stay focused.
Your body gives you strength.
Your heart reminds you why you’re fighting.
We don’t always control what happens.
But we can control how we respond.
Finding My Balance
One of the biggest changes in my life wasn’t losing weight.
It wasn’t quitting alcohol.
It wasn’t lowering my cholesterol.
It was redefining what success actually looks like.
Years ago I thought success meant looking good.
Today?
Success is feeling good.
Being present.
Having energy.
Being healthy enough to coach, travel, chase my kids, laugh with my wife, build this business, and hopefully enjoy a whole lot more birthdays.
Am I still hoping a six-pack makes an appearance someday?
Heck yes.
I’m just no longer chasing a 30-pack. 😂
If a six-pack decides to show up—even if it’s barely popping and still wearing a little insulation—I won’t complain one bit.
But that’s not the finish line anymore.
The finish line is having a healthy heart.
A strong body.
A clear mind.
And enough life left in me to enjoy all three.
That’s what Mind • Body •Heart means to me.
Start Making Deposits
You don’t need to change your entire life today.
Just make one deposit.
Go for the walk.
Lift the weights.
Drink the water.
Eat the protein.
Go to bed thirty minutes earlier.
Call your parents.
Laugh with your kids.
Tell your spouse you love them.
Read instead of doom-scrolling.
One healthy choice won’t change your life.
Neither will one unhealthy choice.
But thousands of them absolutely will.
Just like compound interest.
The return isn’t money.
It’s time.
Energy.
Confidence.
Freedom.
Health.
Life.
Final Thoughts
The most valuable thing any of us own isn’t our house.
It isn’t our retirement account.
It isn’t our career.
It’s tomorrow.
Every decision either protects it…
…or quietly borrows against it.
I’ve spent years paying off the debt I created.
I’m still making payments every single day.
Some are bigger than others.
Some days I slip.
But now I know something I wish I’d understood years ago. Every healthy choice I make is another investment in the life I hope to live.
And if Future Kevin is reading this someday…
I hope he’s smiling.
Because I finally stopped mortgaging his life…
…and started building it.
