Live Like You Know Life Is Precious

We all say life is precious.
We know tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.
We hear it after tragedies. We post about it on social media. We tell our families we love them after someone passes away.
But then Monday rolls around…
…and we’re impatient in traffic.
We ignore our neighbors.
We leave the shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot because someone else will get it.
We forget to thank the person who made our coffee.
We rush past the cashier without making eye contact.
We miss the opportunity to tell someone, “You have an incredible smile,” or “That shirt looks awesome,” or simply, “I hope you have a great day.”
I don’t think most people are bad.
I think we’re distracted.
We’re carrying stress, deadlines, bills, anxiety, expectations, and a thousand notifications around in our pockets. We get so caught up trying to survive the day that we forget we’re sharing this life with millions of other people who are doing the exact same thing.
And maybe…
Maybe one kind word is exactly what they needed.
I’ve Been Reminded
Over the past several months, I’ve watched people I care about go through open-heart surgery, cancer, and other serious health challenges.
Those moments have a way of stopping you in your tracks.
They remind you that life isn’t guaranteed.
Not for me.
Not for you.
Not for the person standing behind you in line at the grocery store.
When you really let that sink in, it changes things.
At least it has for me.
I’m Still Learning
For years I knew life was precious…
But I wasn’t living like I believed it.
I worried too much.
I stressed over things that didn’t deserve my energy.
I avoided uncomfortable conversations.
I kept too much bottled up.
Honestly…
I’m still only partway there.
I’ve got a long way to go.
But I’m happier today than I was a year ago.
And my goal isn’t just to be happier next year.
It’s to love this life even more tomorrow than I do today.
My New Goal
I want to be remembered as someone who made people’s day a little brighter.
Wave to your neighbors.
Hold the door.
Return the shopping cart.
Thank the waitress.
Compliment someone’s shoes.
Tell your kids you’re proud of them.
Tell your spouse they’re beautiful.
Smile first.
Be patient.
Forgive quicker.
Ask someone how they’re doing—and actually wait for the answer.
These things seem tiny.
They’re not.
They’re how communities are built.
They’re how people feel seen.
They’re how we remind each other that we matter.
Bring On the Challenge
Life is still going to punch us in the face.
That’s part of the deal.
Every single day we’re going to face something uncomfortable.
A difficult conversation.
A setback.
A loss.
A disappointment.
There was a time when I spent every ounce of energy trying to avoid those moments.
Now…
I almost welcome them.
Not because they’re fun.
Because I’ve learned that strength is built there.
Confidence is built there.
Character is built there.
The strongest version of ourselves isn’t created during the easy seasons.
It’s created when life gets uncomfortable and we choose to keep moving anyway.
One Last Thought
If you’ve followed my journey, you’ve probably noticed I’ve talked a lot about losing weight.
Building muscle.
Getting healthier.
Quitting alcohol.
Improving my heart health.
All of those things matter.
But they’ve taught me something much bigger.
The goal isn’t simply to live longer.
It’s to live better.
To laugh harder.
To love deeper.
To help more people.
To leave every room a little brighter than it was when I walked in.
Because if life truly is precious—and I believe it is—then every interaction matters.
So today…
Wave.
Smile.
Say thank you.
Hold the door.
Return the shopping cart.
Tell someone they matter.
You never know what someone else is carrying.
And you never know how one small act of kindness might change the course of someone’s day.
Or maybe…
Even their life.
Mind • Body • Heart
That’s the life I’m chasing.
And dammit…
I want to become a little stronger, a little kinder, and a little better every single day.
